Maui’s Top Breweries

From home brewers to craft aficionados, if you’re a beer lover, Maui is an excellent place to tick off some unique drafts in your Untapped journal. Here are a few of our favorites:

Maui Brewing Co. – Starting off with the largest craft brewery on the island, Maui Brewing Co. has been serving up exceptional beers since 2005. While they have multiple locations across the island, if you want the full experience when you visit, head to their Kihei Tasting Room where you can take a brewery tour and try some of their delicious flavors.

Tours take place on weekends only and occur at 12:30PM, 2PM and 3:30PM, so plan accordingly and book your ticket in advance. Want more than beer? They also have delicious restaurants that feature island-fresh ingredients and pub favorites like pizzas, nachos, and tacos.

Mahalo Aleworks—Voted the Best New Brewery in Hawaii by the Hawaii Craft Beer Awards, Mahalo Aleworks has quickly cemented itself in the Upcountry community since opening its doors in September 2022. With a commitment to sourcing hyper-local ingredients, even down to the yeast strains they use, their beers offer a true taste of Aloha in every sip.

From the passionfruit, orange, and guava POG Sour to their Triumph Double IPA and its delicate vanilla and tangerine aromas, the craft experience is elevated in more ways than just “above sea level.” Stop by their tasting room and enjoy exceptional views, delicious food from their on-site vendors, and try a flight or two. You won’t be disappointed.

Beyond these breweries, there are tons of restaurants and bars on Maui where you can find craft beer from other Hawaiian makers. To try some of the best the islands have to offer, check out the Maui Brewers Festival on May 18th. Featuring big names like Hilo Brewing Co. Honolulu Beerworks, Wailuku Brew Works, and more, it’s a beer lover's dream and a great addition to your Maui vacation.

Traveling with non-beer drinkers? The festival will feature cold brew coffee, kombucha, root beer, and more, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Maui’s Must-Visit Winery

With near-perfect year-round weather and an environment rich with unique elements, everything in Maui contributes to the one-of-a-kind profiles of their local wines. Whether you’re a trained sommelier or just a novice wine-lover, there are some exceptional wines to try during your Maui vacation.

Make a day of your Upcountry visit, and after visiting Mahalo Brewery, make the short 25-minute drive up the road to  MauiWine, located on Ulupalakua Ranch. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 11AM to 5PM, this island favorite not only offers a stunning location from which to sample the wines, but you’ll also find Maui-specific flavors you won’t find anywhere else, like their line of pineapple wines made from 100% Maui Gold Pineapples.

Featuring a dry, a dessert, and a sparkling, you can try them all and find your favorite. In addition to the fruited wines, they have an Estate line of traditional vintages ranging from Malbec to Rosé. Let the kids explore the grounds while you enjoy wine flights, cocktails, and light bites at the best winery on Maui.

For a fun twist on wineries, many local restaurants and bars carry lines of Hawaiian-made sake (Japanese rice wine). Take the opportunity to enjoy a delicious sushi dinner while you’re here and sample some of the different sake varieties while you’re at it!

And, if you’re in Maui June 6-9, don’t miss the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival! Featuring wines from national vintners as well as dishes prepared by celebrity chefs Maneet Chauhan and Charlie Palmer, it’s an event you can’t miss.

Discover Maui’s Distilleries

The distilleries of Maui shine with their dedication to their craft. Check out these select spots for informative tours, detailed tastings, and superb products on your next Maui vacation.

Hali’imaile Distilling Company – born out of a dream shared by brothers to create a truly authentic micro-distillery on Maui, Hali’imaile Distilling Company has emerged as a beacon in the world of handcrafted island spirits.

Featuring a crisp vodka, premium rum, smooth whiskey, and an aromatic gin, they’ve covered all the bases with absolute perfection. Stop by their tasting room or book a tour and get a behind-the-scenes look at how they create their award-winning beverages.

Waikulu Distillery – By focusing on products created from 100% blue agave, Waikulu Agave Farm and Distillery sets itself apart from others in the region. Most commonly referred to as tequila or mezcal, agave spirits are found all over. However, because of the rules established by the Appellation of Origin Rights, only products made in specific areas can be classified as tequilas. Because of this, the distillery simply refers to its products as agave spirits.

From their Silver, which highlights notes of citrus, green grass, and floral notes, to the Smoke Pepa chili-infused blend, if you’re a tequila fan, this is a Maui distillery that’s well worth the visit. Check out their tours when you visit!

Ocean Organic Vodka – A visit to this island gem is a step into unspoiled wonder where the products are as revered as the island itself. With an emphasis on sustainable practices, the distillery runs on partial solar power, and the grounds are a fully functioning organic farm. Check out their tasting room or restaurant for vodkas made from mineral water drawn from 3,000 feet below the Kona Coast, and see what a difference this level of craftsmanship brings to a product.

Ocean Organic Vodka is open every day and welcomes walk-ins, but for the best experience, a reservation is recommended. Take a tour, enjoy live music, and soak in the tranquil beauty of this favorite Maui distillery.
